as per IEC 61008-1

Surge_Current_Tester_8-20ms
Surge Current Tester (8/20 microSec)

This SCR Elektroniks make Surge Current Tester – 8/20 µs waveform is designed  for type testing of Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCBs) in line with IS 12640 (Part 1): 2016 / IEC 61008‑1:2010, Clause 9.19.1 & 9.19.2.
This equipment generates controlled surge currents up to 3000 A peak at 4 Ω impedance, simulating the effects of lightning strikes and transient over‑voltages. With its integrated Coupling & Decoupling Network (CDN), the tester ensures reliable evaluation of RCCBs and ELCBs under real‑world surge conditions.

The test operates by applying a specified high voltage between the line-neutral and earth terminals of the device under test (DUT). This procedure evaluates the DUT’s response to short-duration voltage surges, typically arising from lightning strikes or overvoltage transients within the power system. The objective is to assess the insulation’s ability to withstand such stress under real-world surge conditions.

Key Highlights
